Senator unveils road projects, pledges more infrastructure

The senator representing Lagos East Senatorial District, Adetokunbo Abiru, toured several newly completed roads facilitated through his office, drawing excitement from residents and community leaders who hailed the intervention.

A Thursday statement noted that the completed projects include Ojokoro Road (Agric), Nurudeen Owolabi, Alogba, Apena Jimbo, Jalajugbo, Ibu Owo, Agunfoye, Ojediran, and Andu/Oshikoya.

Residents described the works as timely, saying the roads had long been in dire need of attention.

Speaking during the inspection, Abiru reaffirmed his resolve to deliver infrastructure across the 16 local government areas and local council development areas in Lagos East, noting that the projects followed consultations with community leaders and residents to determine priority needs.

Abiru said, “They are about easing the burden of residents, opening up communities for economic prosperity, and ensuring that our people enjoy the dignity of living in decent environments. I am encouraged by the positive feedback, and even more determined to do more.”

He added that contractors would soon mobilise to other sites, including Soji Oshodi/Mutairu/Okeme Street in Somolu/Bariga, Olulonyo-Ebuwawa Road in Ikorodu North, Utuh Street in Mile 12, Ondo Street in Ajegunle, Otolu-Ilagbo in Lekki, Rala/Oshokeji Street in Epe, GRA 2 Road, Dagbolu Road, and several others.

He noted that second phases of Ojokoro Road and Agunfoye were also planned.

Community leaders applauded Abiru’s performance, describing the roads as proof of his transformative leadership.

Ninety-two-year-old Alhaji Jimoh Alogba, said, “We never thought we would see this road fixed in record time. Senator Abiru has given us hope that responsive leadership still exists.”

Another resident, Mutiu Banjo, lauded what he called the senator’s “listening representation.”

He added, “We raised this matter not too long, and today, he is here to witness the timely completion of the work. This is the kind of leadership people want.”

Abiru urged residents to take ownership of the projects, stressing that “collaborative governance, where leaders and citizens work together, is the only path to sustainable progress.”

Beyond road works, he highlighted interventions in education, health, empowerment, and digital skills training through the SAIL Foundation, saying development must spread equitably across Lagos East.
