A legal practitioner and Founder/ President Neighbour To Neighbour Network For Community Development, Barr. Kelechi Mbam has raised alarm over the decline in Youths engagement in Skills Acquisition and craft across the country.
Barr. Mbam who spoke with our correspondent in Abakaliki noted that the society was heading to danger if Government and Corporate Organisations do not rise to the occasion adding that there may be no barbers, auto mechanics, vulcanizers, tailors hair dressers, typists etc in time to come.
Mbam revealed that he has searched for a typist for over a year now to serve as a secretary in his office but couldn’t find any. This according to him led him into conducting preliminary survey where he discovered that many skilled workers in the society today are lacking apprentices.
According to him, ” l foresee danger in our society. Soon a Minister would have a punctured tyre along the road but would not see a vulcanizer to fix it. The Governor’s hair may grow bushy but there would be no barber to Barb his hair. A lecturer’s cloth May tear but there would be no tailor to mend it. You may not see locally made baskets again in the market, brooms may disappear and so on and so forth “
He said ‘” the greatest challenge we have today in our youths is the misunderstanding and misapplication of the social media. Everybody is now on the speed way to make money as Content Creation has become the order of the day.
“Our girls are almost going naked on social media to attract traffic while our young men have become like mad people as a result of leaving the hairs tattered to attract social media attention.
“If Government and Corporate Bodies do not rise to the occasion now, we may all be victims of the impending tsunami ” Mbam said.
The Social crusader used the occasion to disclose his upcoming program tagged ” Recover The Youths, Secure The Future “
He stated that the program which would have a national outreach will be unveiled soon pointing out that his organisation will partner with Government Agencies, Corporate Bodies and good spirited individuals to achieve the noble feat.
Barr. Mbam advised parents to ensure proper home upbringing of their children and wards adding that religious institutions and schools will also be part of the campaign.
