Ebonyi Govt Seals Commercial Building Over Deviation From Original Approval Plan

Ebonyi State Ministry of Capital City Development has sealed a building located at New Mile 50 GRA, layout in Ntezi Aba, Ebonyi Local Government Area of the State over what it described as deviation from the initial approved building plan to another by the developer.

Speaking to journalists shortly after inspecting the building project before it was sealed, the State Commissioner of Capital City Development Chief Sunday Elechi Inyima said that the State Government in it’s determination to ensure that the capital city master plan is maintained said any building project that fails to stick to it’s approval plan will be sealed.

“We are sealing this building due to the deviance of the building from the initial approved plan to another which was not what this area is meant for till further notice.

“The Mile 50 GRA Layout is mapped for residential buildings and Ebonyi State Government will not take it lightly with any developer who would go contrary to the lay down rules”.

He noted that henceforth, the initial approved building plan will be retrieved from the developer and the building sealed to serve as deterrent to the owner and others who may wish to construct this type of building in the area mapped for residential buildings.

He directed that the developer should make himself available to the police and explain why he has to go contrary to the lay down rules and regulations of the state capital city adding that the State will no longer hesitate to arrest and prosecute offenders.

He ordered that some of the properties which includes generator, bags of cement and rods be confiscated pending the time the developer presents himself to the police station.

Reacting, the Ebonyi State Representative in the Town Planning Registration Council of Nigeria, TOPREC, Tpl Chinedu Okoro commended the State Government for the bold step in ensuring that the Master Plan of the State Capital is actualized and maintained.

He warned developers against going contrary to the approval plan by the State Government noting that such deface the esthetics of the capital city and will also create environmental hazards to residents of the State Capital and it’s environs.

Tpl Okoro said that the TOPREC will continue to support the State Government programs and policies adding that it’s taskforce team has been mandated to ensure that they monitor building projects to ensure that they are in line with the lay down procedures.
