THE TRUE STORY OF EZESHIP TUSSLE IN AKWETE COMMUNITY OF UKWA EAST LGA OF ABIA STATE

A Plebiscite Conducted By The Ministry Of Local Government And Chieftaincy Affairs To Eect The Traditional Ruler Of Akwaete Umuihueze Autonomous Community Has Ended In Ukwa East Council Headquarters With Chief Daniel Nwauzor, Emerging As The New Eze Elect of Akwaete Umuihueze.
Chief Daniel Nwauzor who was elected by all the 12 villages made up of Akwaete Umuihueze through their village heads, polled a total number of Nine Votes to defeat his opponent, Chief Enyinnaya Ogbulu who gained one vote while votes from the other two villages were cancelled due to declination lack of adequate representation.
Speaking while conducting the plebiscite at the Ukwa East Local Government Headquarters, The Commissioner for Local Government and ChieftaincyChieftaincy Affairs, Chief Uzor Nwachukwu, noted that the State Government decided to conduct a plebiscite to restore peace and stability in communities that are passing through contentions because of traditional rulership and called on them to eschew bitterness and rancour, regardless of their interests.

Chief Nwachukwu stressed that the State Government has no interest in nominating and electing who becomes the traditional ruler of any community in the State, adding that the government will always ensure orderliness in every part of the State and called on them to sheath their sword and support each other.
Responding, The Member Representative Ukwa East and West in the Federal House of Representatives, Chief Chris Nkwonta who noted that the community has been without a traditional ruler for over 40 years ago, congratulated the New Eze Elect, Chief Daniel Nwauzor for his performance in the election and reiterated the need for him to unite the community and do things that will not affect others negatively.
Contributing, the Major of Ukwa East, Lady Ngozi Nwagbara encouraged all the parties to involve themselves in things that will attract development to their community, noting that the Government will not allow any form of rancour, considering the level the Dr Alex Otti-led administration wants to place the State and enjoined the New Eze Elect to carry every member of the community along.

In their speeches, The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mrs Chidinma Nwogu and The Second Deputy Chairman, Abia State Traditional Rulers Council, Eze Nwosu thanked the State Government for giving necessary attention to the communities involved in the crisis to the traditional ruler’s contention while describing the electoral process as transparent.
In his remarks, the New Eze Elect of Akwaete Umuihueze Autonomous Community in Ukwa East LGA, Chief Daniel Nwauzor, expressed gratitude to God for making the process smooth and peaceful and assured everyone his commitment to restoring peace and orderliness in his community and called on other parties to work with him for the overall development of the community.
