Battle For Ebonyi South: APC Will Ensure Credible Primaries Today- Emegha

The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ebonyi State chapter, Chief Stanley Okoro Emegha has said that the party will ensure free, fair and credible Primaries today to produce the best candidate ahead of the February 3rd By-election in Ebonyi South Senatorial zone.
Chief Emegha who made the disclosure in an interaction with journalists in his office noted that the process will be peaceful and in accordance with the provision of the INEC guidelines.
He maintained that all aspirants will be given a level playing field during the conduct.
Emegha noted further that relevant stakeholders, including the electoral umpire, security agencies, among others, have been properly notified to ensure smooth conduct of the election.
He said that the Party was conducting a fresh primary election, that will guarantee the emergence of an APC candidate for Ebonyi South Senatorial zone who will fill the vacant position in the zone created as a result of the appointment of Senator David Umahi as Minster of Works.
“It’s a fresh election. The Screening/ Congress Committee and the Appeal Committee are already in Ebonyi to handle issues revolving around the Congress election.
Recall that there was a declaration of vacancy of Ebonyi South seat in the Senate because of the resignation of Sen. David Umahi from the Senate, who was appointed as a Minister.”Today is Congress and tomorrow is primary elections.
The police, DSS are on ground to ensure smooth conduct of the election. Remember, it’s an internal affairs. We have always used dialogue to come up with our stand as a Party.
“We are confident that the security Agencies will do their job. We have agreed as a Party but we cannot deny anyone the right to contest election. The SWC agreed that the next Senator of APC should come from Onicha LGA. it was in the interest of balancing of power.”The elected five delegates will in turn elect the candidate of the Party for Ebonyi South zone.
“Today, we are having delegates election where we are going to elect five delegates each from the electoral Wards across the five LGAs who will inturn elect our candidate tomorrow at Afikpo”.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the 7-man Screening and Special Congress Committee, Mr. Smart Iheazor explained that two members of the Party in the State purchased the form for the election but only one of them returned the form and also showed up for screening and has been successfully screened and cleared to contest for the primary Election.
According to him “We have commenced action immediately. We screened the candidates that have purchased the form for the election. Two persons purchased the form but only one returned the completed form while the second person didn’t return the form”.
