The Apex Igbo Sociocultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has deemed it imperative to address an incident of grave concern that emerged during the recent Lagos Stakeholders meeting held on Sunday at Victoria Island. This critical gathering, centered on the infrastructural concerns of our nation, unfortunately became tainted by a calculated attempt to publicly undermine the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi.

Reports and videos circulating on social media depict a regrettable episode wherein an individual, ostensibly sponsored by certain disloyal factions, brazenly breached established protocols in an apparent effort to embarrass the Minister. We have unequivocally identified this attempt as a nefarious scheme orchestrated by individuals intent on engendering public humiliation towards a respected public servant, whose tireless dedication to the advancement of our nation is commendable. Fortunately, their efforts were thwarted by vigilant security personnel, highlighting the need for constant vigilance against such disruptive endeavors.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo firmly asserts that the Igbo community, along with all peace-loving Nigerians, will no longer tolerate open assaults and malicious campaigns of calumny aimed at Minister Umahi. It is essential to recognize that the orchestrators of these sordid attacks are not merely attempting to besmirch the Minister’s reputation; they are also attacking the principles of democratic engagement and respect that should permeate our political interactions. We are resolute that such conduct must cease forthwith.

Moreover, we have scrutinized the unfounded claims made by the individual in question, who purported to possess connections to the campaign organization of one Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Our thorough intelligence gathering reveals that she, in fact, aligns with an opposition political party whose motives are intertwined with disrupting governance and fostering disunity amongst the Nigerian populace. This blatant manipulation of public forums to serve political ends must raise alarm bells for every citizen committed to democratic values.

Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has articulated our organization’s unwavering commitment to establish robust mechanisms designed to thwart any potential disruptions aimed at obstructing the Minister of Works in the performance of his duties. Minister Umahi has demonstrated exemplary leadership through transparent and participatory sessions that engage diverse geopolitical zones regarding essential road construction projects across Nigeria. Such initiatives warrant respect and protection.

We have observed with increasing concern the continual, orchestrated attempts by certain segments of the political elite and their cohorts to confront Minister Umahi publicly, thereby undermining his authority. It is crucial to remind these actors that within a democratic society, any grievances must be addressed through lawful channels and civil discourse. The courtroom stands as the appropriate venue for seeking redress, not disruptive public stunts that only serve to sow discord.

In this spirit, we call for an immediate cessation of all campaigns designed to ridicule or attack Senator Dave Umahi. Such acts of rascality will no longer be tolerated by the Igbo community or any discerning Nigerian who values integrity, respect, and the rule of law in our political system.

In conclusion, Ohanaeze Ndigbo stands in solidarity with Senator Dave Umahi, affirming our unwavering support as he continues to fulfill his constitutional responsibilities as Minister of Works. We urge all Nigerians to foster an atmosphere of respect and constructive engagement in our national discourse. Together, let us forge a path that prioritizes unity, transparency, and the collective good of our beloved nation.

Signed,

Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro
Secretary General
Ohanaeze Ndigbo
