Ebonyi Council Boss Laments Alleged Vandalization Of Properties By Predecessor

The Newly Sworn In Chairman of Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Mr. Ikechukwu Ogbuoffia has expressed concern over the alleged looting and vandalization of the properties of the Council by the out-gone administration led by the former Chairman, Mr. Chidiebere Uzor.
In a viral video circulated by the Council Boss shortly after inspecting the level of vandalization and looting at the Council Headquarters in Isu and the ALGON office in Abakaliki, the State capital, obtained by our reporter, Mr. Ogbuoffia said that the immediate administration looted all the properties procured with the Council fund.
In the viral video, it was observed that the offices were left empty. Some of the items looted include, Chairs, tables, Television sets, refrigerators, cupboards, essential documents among other items belonging to the Council.
“We are here to inspect and take over the offices and properties of the local government having been sworn in by the State Governor on Sunday, the 1st of September 2024 but to our greatest shock, no single property was seen at the ALGON office here in Abakaliki.
“At the Council Headquarters in Isu, the office properties were looted and vandalized. This is very unfortunate and regrettable. There is nothing left here to take off with and we are going to make our findings known to the State Governor and expect his intervention and further directive.
Meanwhile, stakeholders of the local government have called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the former Council Chairman, Mr. Chidiebere Uzor to serve as a deterrent to other political office holders who loot and vandalize Government properties during their exit from office.
A stakeholder, Mr. Clement Ogbonna who spoke to our reporter condemned the alleged looting and vandalization adding that the properties procured were procured with the finance of the local government and should not be looted by the previous administration.
The action is condemnable and very unfortunate. Every stakeholder in the local government condemned the action in it’s entirety. The looting and vandalization of the local government facilities and properties by the out-gone administration in the local government must be investigated.
There is the need for the State Government to order for the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the alleged looting and vandalization. Taking away all the properties and facilities in the office must be seen as a criminal act.
When contacted, the Media Assistant to the Former Council Chairman, Mr. Chijoke Agwu declined comment on the alleged looting saying that the former Council Boss is out of town and will react to the allegation soon.
