Yahaya Bello govt rough, marred by corruption, killings — Clark
Elder statesman, Edwin Clark said the government of the former Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State was rough, marred with corruption and killings.
Clark stated this in an interview on Arise Television on Thursday.
He said Bello was just being stubborn, after having run a rough governance in the state.
He said, “Yahaya Bello is just being stubborn. He has been living very very rough…having a very rough government, corruption, killing of people in the place during elections and so on.
“There’s time for everything and it has come for him to answer questions. He should go to court. He should go to court to answer the substance of the case, where did he get the money from?
“Is it true or not that the money he paid to the American school belongs to him or belongs to the government of Kogi State?
“The behaviour of the new Governor shows Yahaya Bello is in power for the third time. Ahmed Ododo is just running after him.
“I just want to plead with Ododo to do the needful so that the youth in this country will have something to fall upon.”
The Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, however, asked Bello to surrender himself to the authorities.
Recall that The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC is prosecuting Bello on 19 counts bordering on alleged money laundering, breach of trust, and misappropriation of funds to the tune of N80.2 billion.
The matter is before Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyede, vowed to prosecute Bello or resign, alleging that the embattled ex-governor withdrew $720,000 from the state’s accounts to pay his child’s school fees in advance just before he left office on January 27, 2024.
The anti-graft commission had declared Bello wanted after his successor, Governor Usman Ododo allegedly whisked him away on April 17, 2024, preventing EFCC operatives to arrest him (Bello) when they laid siege to his Abuja residence.
