A Chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in Ebonyi State, Chief Charles Egwu has called on the former Chairman of the party in the State, Chief Silas Onu to desist from extorting money from the 2023 Presidential Candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the Governorship candidate of the party in the State, Chief Ifeanyichukwuma Odii in the name of contesting the Senatorial bye-election in the State.

Chief Egwu in a statement signed by him and made available to Journalists in Abakaliki maintained that Onu who is the candidate of the party ahead of the February 3rd bye-election in Ebonyi South Senatorial zone lacks the political will, the zeal, commitment and doggedness to campaign and win the election for the party.

He noted that Senator Ama Nnachi was a more experienced, committed and has the resources to campaign and win the election for the party adding that Chief Onu is simply using the tall ambition to extort money from political stalwarts of the party within and outside the state to enrich himself.

“Let me make it clear here that our party at the National failed in it’s duties and responsibilities by giving the party’s ticket to a novice in Ebonyi politics. Chief Onu is not the best candidate to fly the party’s flag ahead of the by-election. His aim is very clear to all the political stakeholders of the PDP in Ebonyi South and the State in general.

“His mission is to use the avenue to extort money from the Presidential Candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Chief Ifeanyichukwuma Odii who are his benefactors. It is on record that he got huge sums of money from the two party stalwarts and has refused to even print posters or engage in serious consultation with stakeholders of the party from Ebonyi South.

“He lacks the political will, the zeal and commitment to campaign and win the bye-election for the party. The party primaries is evident of his non acceptability by stakeholders of the party. No single stakeholder of the party was present during the party primaries and what happened during the so called primaries was simply a jamboree.

“The bye-election is as good as already lost by the party. The election is few weeks away from now and all the stakeholders and party faithfuls across the Senatorial zone are disenchanted by the decision of the party to give the ticket of the party to Silas Onu.

“Senator Ama Nnachi is a better candidate with the political doggedness to win the position. Silas Onu is from the same local government with the Minister for Works, Senator David Umahi, the same local government with the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Development South East and others with different National and State positions which includes the Secretary to the State Government.

“For Equity, justice and fairness, we had expected the party to give the ticket to Senator Ama Nnachi who was the candidate of the party in the 2023 general election and from Afikpo South Local Government or better still someone from another local government in the zone that does not have juicy positions. Not doubt, the choice of his coming from Uburu will work against the party. It’s injustice to have given the ticket to someone from Uburu in Ohaozara LGA.

“We urge the leadership of the party to direct Silas Onu to meet with stakeholders of the party in Ebonyi South zone to mobilize support for the party else the party will be shamefully disgraced in the by-election.
