The Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru has expressed displeasure and sadness over the poor environmental condition of the capital city and its environs following the heaps of refuse dumps at every corner of the state.

In a Statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr Monday Uzor and made available to Journalists, the Governor said that the poor environmental condition poses serious health hazards to the residents of the state and will no longer be tolerated.

Dr. Uzor noted that the State Governor has directed the State Commissioner for Environment to immediately ensure that all refuse dumps are evacuated within the next 24 hours and failure to comply strictly with the directive will attract sever sanctions.

“I want to warn the commissioner for Environment for the last time to sit up and do the work and get the environment cleaned because I will not spare him if found wanting this time around.

The Governor tasked residents of the State to cooperate with government and ensure strict compliance to environmental sanitation measures already in place.

“I therefore use this opportunity to urge residents of the state to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse on medians of the road and blocking of drainage system but should rather use designated dump sites” he said.

The State Governor also assured that he will personally move round the City to ensure strict compliance to the directive.
